How to resolve CRC errors in smart meters
Overview
A CRC error is a checksum error that occurs when the data from the smart meter is corrupted or incomplete. While a few CRC errors may not have an immediate impact, a series of these errors can cause the charging station to switch to safe mode and limit the charging capacity.
Causes of CRC errors
Defective, damaged, or excessively long data cables.
Issues with a P1 extender or P1 splitter.
Software issues that will be resolved in future firmware updates.
Steps to resolve CRC errors
Check the length of the P1 cable: Ensure that the P1 cable is less than 20 meters long. Long cables can cause signal loss, leading to CRC errors.
Test without P1 Splitter/Extender: Remove any P1 splitters or extenders and test the connection again. These devices can sometimes cause interference.
Inspect the P1 cable: Check if the P1 cable is undamaged and if the connectors are properly and securely attached. Damaged cables or loose connections can cause CRC errors.
Use a P1 tester: Test the signal at the meter and the cable with a P1 tester to test the quality of the connection. This can help identify signal issues.
