Issue

When a charging station displays Error 105 (Power Meter Failure), it typically indicates a communication or hardware issue with the kWh meter. It may present itself as a persistent error message on the screen, a non-responsive power meter, or a diagnostic log entry stating: "Failed to acquire parameters, replace kWh meter."

This article describes the steps to identify the root cause and what is necessary to resolve the issue.

Issue description
Error 105 indicates the charger-software does not detect the powermeter (kWh)

Resolution steps

1. Update the firmware
Make sure that the charging station is updated to the latest version.

1.1 Perform a Reboot test
Turn the charger off for 10 seconds, then power it back on.

Does Error 105 reappear?
  • Yes, then go to step 1.2.

  • No, Issue resolved.

1.2 Perform a Visual Inspection of the kWh meter
Check for visual abnormalities:
  • Loose, damaged or incorrect connections

    Pin21: Blue
    Pin22: White
    Pin23: Green

  • Display of the kWh meter (is it on or off?)

  • Incorrect configuration:
For all Single chargers, Eve Double Plus, Twin4-V2G and Twin5 models the address for the meter(s) must be ‘01’, which is the default.
For Eve Double Pro, PG-Line and Twin4XL, the meter must be set to address ‘01’ (default setting), for socket1. For socket2, the meter must be set to address ‘02’)
Refer to below instruction to check/adjust the meter address.

After checking the kWh meter and fixing anything unusual, is Error 105 still showing up?

  • Yes, then go to step 1.3.

  • No, issue may have been resolved by your fixes.

1.3 Diagnostic Log Check
In the live diagnostics log, verify if the following message appears:
"Failed to acquire parameters, replace kWh meter."

If so, proceed to step 1.5 to replace the defective component.

1.4 Power Cycle
Turn the charger off for 10 seconds, then power it back on. If Error 105 reappears after reboot, proceed to the next step.

1.5 Replace defective component
After completing the above checks, the kWh meter is most likely defective. Proceed to replace it or submit a 'Request for Service' ticket via support.alfen.com

Checking/adjusting the address in a Reallin energymeter

  1. Hold both buttons on the meter with two fingers for a couple of seconds.

  2. On the screen of the meter, you will now see the text "Adr - 01" (only if the meter is set to address 1, otherwise you will see "Adr - 02"

  3. You can change the address of the meter by clicking the bottom side button (the top side will change the address by 10).

  4. Click the bottom side button until you end up on address 1 or 2, depending on the socket you're replacing the meter for.

  5. After this you're done, rebooting the charging station should save the address of the meter.
