What is the difference between firmware files with encryption key A or B?
 
Overview
This article is applicable for chargers on Alfen's NG-Platform only.

Between firmware release 4.14 and 7.0.0, two different encryption keys exist in the firmware update files. 
These firmware releases include two separate .fwi files to allow upgrades from older firmware versions to newer.
  • The encryption keys update will have impact on the updating mechanism.
     
  • The encryption keys used in firmware version 4.12 and earlier are referred to as “A”. 
     
  • The encryption keys used in firmware version 4.14 and higher are referred to as “B”.
     
  • From firmware version 7.0.0, only encryption 'B' will be distributed.

What you must know about updating firmware

  • Updating from an older version (4.12 or older) to a higher version is always possible by using upgrade file x.x-A.

  • In case the charger is already running on firmware version 4.14 or higher, please use firmware type B.

  • We do not recommend downgrading firmware.
    For instance, in 3-phase Eve Single Pro-line chargers, downgrading causes issues in compatibility with newly sourced power meters.

  • A limited number of firmware versions is available as full version from our Firmware pages for NG-Platform
