How do I configure the Smart Charging functionalities such as Active Load Balancing and Smart Charging Network?

This page holds documents on the different technologies for Smart Charging
Alfen offers a range of functionalities which support Smart Charging:

  • Standard load balancing (SLB)
Balancing the available power between the 2 sockets in the same charger (Double/Twin only)

  • Active load balancing (ALB)
The used power in the installation is constantly measured by an external meter/system and dynamically limits the available power for the charger to use.
    • Meter; TCP/IP or DSMR/eSMR (P1)
    • Energy Management System (EMS)

  • Smart Charging Network (SCN)
Multiple chargers are in a network and distribute the available power in the most optimal way to the connected vehicles to charger.
SCN can be combined with ALB to make the available power in the SCN dynamic.
Note that only 1 charger in the SCN may be configured for ALB.

  • OCPP smart charging profiles
Remotely control/configure chargers from your backoffice using the OCPP standard.

  • Suspend Charging Mode (SCM)

In the 'Smart Charging Guide' you will find a description of how the Smart Charging functionalities work as well as instructions for installing and configuring these functionalities.
