Password Recovery Code (PRC)

This page explains the Password Recovery Code (PRC).
The Password Recovery Code (PRC) is generated during production and can be used in instances where the password is lost. Only new products with firmware 5.x.x. or later have this recovery mechanism in place.

The PRC and the default password are printed on the same label, so if one is known, the other one is known as well. Use of the PRC will always revert the charging station to the Default Password. So, if the Default Password was changed earlier to a Customer Password, use of the PRC will automatically reset it back to the Default Password.

Information about the Password Recovery Codes is destroyed shortly after production test and shipping the product(s). Alfen therefore has no knowledge about these codes. Once a PRC is lost, it is lost.

IMPORTANT!!

  1. Updated products (upgrade from firmware < 5.X to firmware 5.X or higher) have no PRC and rely on SSA being enabled to access the charging station once a password has been lost.

  2. After replacing the controller board the default password and the PRC have been deleted.
The PRC cannot be used anymore to retrieve the (deleted) default password.
