Checking and configuring Windows Defender Firewall

This troubleshooting will help to check and configure Windows Defender Firewall.

In order to use the ACE Service Installer (ACE SIA), the firewall of your Windows computer needs to be set up correctly. If you cannot communicate with the EV charger through ACE SIA, you probably need to adjust your firewall settings. We assume that your Windows system runs Windows Defender Firewall.

To check and change your settings you need to have installed and run ACE Service Installer at least once. To run ACE Service Installer you will need your account details (login and password).

If you run the ACE SIA for the first time, except the installation of all Presets, Firmware and Backoffice Presets this may take some time and requires a connection to the internet.

To check your firewall configuration, open Control Panel and then select 'System and Security.
Choose Windows Defender Firewall.
Select ‘Advanced Settings’.
Opening the Advanced Settings, you will need to review the ‘Inbound Rules’. We will examine if these are enabled and configured for different networks. Luckily, the ACE Service Installer is one of the first mentioned applications in the list. Please be aware that columns may look different in your situation. You can adjust this (if you like) in the ‘View’ tab.
In the Windows Firewall Defender you need to check if the inbound rules are applied to both TCP and UDP [1]. Double click on one of the rules and enable ACE SIA under the ‘General’ tab.
Under the ‘Advanced’ tab, make sure that all profiles are check marked. This is what it should look like after configuring the inbound rules for  the Defender Firewall.
Now do the same for the other inbound rule. Make sure that both rules are enabled.  Once you’ve done this it should look like this.
You may want to check if your Presets, Firmware, and Backoffice Presets files have been downloaded properly and can be used by  the ACE Service Installer. The ACE SIA has created a directory: C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\ACE Service Installer\ with the following subdirectories.
\%user%\ [2] is the  account name of the one using the computer. These directories are hidden so you would need to type in the file path in the  Explorer search bar to access these or enable ‘hidden items’ in the Explorer View Setting.
  1. TCP and UDP are different methods to send information across the internet.

  2. Not sure about your user name? Run ‘CMD’ from the Search bar. Your user directory will be shown at the prompt
