Requirements to Enable Autocharge on Alfen EV Chargers

System Requirements for Autocharge

To enable Autocharge on Alfen EV chargers, the following components must be in place:

  • Charger-to-Back Office Connection:
    • OCPP 1.6 or OCPP 1.6 Smart Energy (SE) protocol
  • Charger Hardware:
    • Alfen Twin 5 (Plus) or other ISO15118-compatible models
    • Alfen Hardware Platform with firmware version 1.2.0 or higher
  • License:
    • An active Autocharge license key

Software Configuration

To activate Autocharge:

  1. Set the OCPP key “AutochargeEnabled” to “True”.
  2. Ensure the EV supports fixed and unique idTags.
  3. Use a mobile app or back-office system to initialize the EV idTag.

EV Compatibility Considerations

  • Valid EV idTag: Must be unique and fixed.

  • Invalid idTags: Autocharge will fail if the idTag is invalid.
  • Rolling or Shared idTags: These can cause billing issues and should be excluded.

Alfen provides an exclusion list in the firmware to block incompatible vehicles. CPOs should report such EVs to Alfen for inclusion.
