How to configure Active Load Balancing (ALB) via the ACE Service Installer

Overview
Active Load Balancing (ALB) is a feature that ensures the optimal distribution of available electrical power to prevent overloading. This guide explains how to configure ALB using the ACE Service Installer.

Prerequisites Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • The latest version of the ACE Service Installer installed on your laptop.
  • A valid account for the ACE Service Installer.
  • The charging station updated with the latest firmware.
  • An open internet connection for updates and license keys.
  • The ALB license key unlocked on the charging station.

Steps to configure ALB

1. Log into the ACE Service Installer
  • Open the ACE Service Installer on your laptop.
  • Select the charging station from the list on the left.
  • Log in by entering the provided password.

2. Access Load Balancing Settings

  • Click the Load Balancing symbol in the top ribbon.
  • Check the box for Active Load Balancing.

3. Select Data Source
  • Choose the type of Data source: Meter or Meter + EMS monitoring, according to your requirements.

4. Configure Measurements
  • Fill in whether the connected smart energy meter includes or excludes the currents of the charging station:
    • Include Charging EV: The charging station is connected to the same smart energy meter as other loads (e.g. household equipment).
    • Exclude Charging EV: The charging station is connected to a different smart energy meter than other loads.

5. Select Protocol
  • Choose the protocol needed to communicate with the smart energy meter:
    • DSMR4.x/SMR5.0 (P1) (Belgium and Netherlands only)
    • TIC/Linky (France only)

6. Set Maximum Current
  • Fill in the Maximum current the charging stations may distribute if no other appliances draw current from the electrical installation. The actual limit is based on the measurements from the smart energy meter.

7. Set Safe Current
  • Fill in the current limit that is used by the charging station when the connection between the charging station and the smart energy meter is lost.

8. Allow 1- and 3-Phase Charging
  • Check this box if the charging station is allowed to switch between 1-phase or 3-phase charging.

9. Save and Reboot
