To enable Active Load Balancing, one method of obtaining information about the actual power consumption in your installation is by using a Homewizard Wi-Fi P1 meter. This device connects to the P1 port of your smart energy meter, which is typically provided by grid operators in the Netherlands and Belgium.
In this article, you’ll learn how to configure your charger to utilize data from the Homewizard Wi-Fi P1 meter for Active Load Balancing.
To ensure proper functionality, your charger must be connected to the same local network as the Homewizard Wi-Fi P1 meter.
Homewizard installation
This instruction is limited to the configuration of an Alfen charger and assumes the Homewizard Wifi P1 meter is already correctly installed and connected to the local network.

Configuring the charger using the ACE Service Installer
- Open the ACE Service Installer
- Go to the General tab and select 'License key from the menu.
- Make sure that the ‘Active Load balancing’ feature is unlocked.
- Go to the ‘Load balancing’ tab
- Click ‘Active load balancing’
- Active ‘Active load balancing’
- Select Data Source ‘Meter’
- Select Protocol Selection 'DSMR4.x / SMR5.0 (P1)
- Also enter the maximum current for the installation and Safe current to be used.
- Click the ‘save’ button on the bottom of the page.
- Now click the ‘DSMR/SMR (P1)’ option in the menu on the left
- Select ‘HomeWizard Wi-Fi P1’ from the menu
- Click the ‘Save’ button on the bottom of the page
- A notification message is displayed:
- The Interface should find the network and receive an IP-address from the network.
- To check the correct operation of the setup, go to the tab ‘Live monitoring’, select ‘Currents’.
Actual current(s) most now be displayed in the ‘Smart meter’ section.

The charging station has now been correctly configured to use the data from the Homewizard Wifi P1 meter for Active Load balancing on your charger.
