WiFi on Alfen charging stations

With the release of Firmware 7.1 the WiFi feature becomes available in Eve Single S-Line and Eve Single Pro-Line charging stations enabling wireless commissioning and wireless LAN support. To help you understand the possibilities of the WiFi feature here are the frequently asked questions about this topic.

What can I do with WiFi on Alfen charging stations?

With WiFi, your charging station can function as a WiFi Access Point (AP), allowing installers or service engineers to connect wirelessly via the My Eve app. The mobile device and charging station communicate directly, without the need for the customer’s LAN. This enables the commissioning of the charging station without requiring a laptop or Ethernet cable.

The WiFi feature also allows for wireless LAN access, so you can connect your charging station wirelessly to your local area network.

How do I know if my charging station is compatible with the new WiFi feature?

The WiFi feature is available on Eve Single S-Line and Eve Single Pro-Line charging stations produced in March 2023 or later. The production date can be found on the type label on the charging station.

Can I upgrade my charging station to support the WiFi feature?

Yes, we have a 4G and WiFi upgrade kit available for Eve Single S-Line and Eve Single Pro-Line charging stations.

What is the wireless commissioning feature?

With WiFi, your charging station will function as a WiFi Access Point (AP), allowing installers or service engineers to connect wirelessly via the My Eve app. The mobile device and charging station communicate directly, without the need for the customer’s LAN. This enables the commissioning of the charging station without requiring a laptop or Ethernet cable. Note: you must have version 2.0 or higher of the My Eve app installed on your mobile device.

What is the wireless LAN feature?

Wireless LAN access allows Eve Single S-line and Eve Single Pro-line charging stations to connect to a local area network. This connection can be used for:

  • Eve Connect

  • Modbus TCP energy meters for Active Load Balancing

For optimal performance, it is strongly recommended to use a wired connection for Active Load Balancing. Note that it is not possible to connect multiple Eve Single chargers in a Smart Charging Network using wireless LAN.

Do I need a license (key) to use the WiFi feature on my charging station?

No, you do not need a license to use the WiFi feature on your charging station. You just need a compatible Alfen charging station: Eve Single S-Line and Eve Single Pro-Line, produced March 2023 or later. If your charging station was produced earlier, you can upgrade it with the Eve Single 4G and WiFi upgrade kit.
