Which firmware update do you need?
This page gives a step-by-step instruction on updating the firmware on outdated chargers using the NG-Platform.
Determining which firmware release update you’ll need can be confusing but we’re here to guide you through the process.
Different encryption keys
Since firmware release 4.14 there are two different encryption keys in the firmware update files. When you prepare to download a firmware update you will have the choice between firmware files with extension “A”, or “B”.
Firmware upgrade releases will include two separate *.fwi files to allow upgrades from older firmware versions to newer.
- The encryption keys update will have impact on the updating mechanism, so you’ll need to choose the correct one
- The encryption keys used in firmware version 4.12 and earlier are referred to as “A”. The filename will be *.A.fwi
- The encryption keys used in the newer firmware are referred to as “B”. The filename will be *.B.fwi
Upgrade using the right path
We encourage clients to eventually upgrade to a firmware release with encryption key “B” since this is optimized for current and future use of your charging station. However, it’s not advised to blindly upgrade from an older version “A” to a newer version “B” since this can lead to unexpected issues. As some steps contain a lot of change (like passwords/ new bootloader) we advise to take some steps in between when updating from really old firmware. We’ve put together this scheme to help you choose the right path:
Other considerations
- Starting with firmware version 6.x it’s no longer possible to downgrade to a lower firmware version.
- Firmware versions 5.x cannot be downgraded to 4.x.
- Do not downgrade your firmware to a lower version since this will cause issues with your charging station.
- From firmware 7.0.0 only B-encryption will be available
