What is Anti-Tamper Detection?

This page describes the Anti-Tamper feature.

Why has Alfen introduced tamper detection?
Tamper detection is introduced to protect the internals of the charging station by monitoring whether the housing is properly closed or not. This is required in the new “Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations” that are now active in the UK.

What is Anti-Tamper detection?
Anti-Tamper detection is part of the UK Smart Charging Requirements. The Anti-Tamper kit contains a plunger switch which is triggered if the front cover is opened (like a fridge light).
The anti-tamper device detects an (attempted) breach of a charge station when the front cover is removed.

How does tamper detection work?
The Anti-Tamper detection solution is represented by a physical switch located just behind the housing of the charging station (in the top-right corner). It is activated when the front of the housing is lifted from its position. Activating the tamper detection switch will result in:
  • Notify the user by displaying a message (on Eve Pro-line models), or showing an orange LED (for Eve Single S-line)

  • Sends a security notification to the backoffice

How is tamper detection activated on a charging station?
The following three requirements must be met for the tamper detection to be functional:

  • Mechanical  switch installed

  • Firmware version 6.1 or later installed

  • The charging station is powered on.

As tamper detection is part of a (cyber) security schedule, it will be activated automatically when possible and cannot be deactivated anymore once installed.
Physically removing the tamper detection switch will result in a permanent detection report (security event notification) until resolved by installing a (new) tamper detection switch.

Can the charging station still be used when the tamper detection has been triggered?
Yes, the charging station will remain operational for end users. Charging will still be possible.

Are charging stations with tamper detection only available for ordering in the UK?
For now, we only deliver it with charging stations ordered for the UK.
We will probably integrate it into all charger types by default at a later stage. There is a chance that tamper detection will be legally required in the whole EU later, so we want to be properly prepared for that.

How to reset/ dismiss
A tamper detection alert can be resolved using the MyEve app (v1.18.0 and up) /ACE Service Installer (3.6.6-163 and up), logging in, and resetting the sensor.
Please refer to the images below. If the warning is only dismissed, then the tamper warning will remain active.

Physically removing the tamper detection switch will result in a permanent detection report (security event notification) until resolved by installing a (new) tamper detection switch again.
This is a safety feature and is required!
